Maggie Tapert
– The High Priestess of Pleasure
Facing surgery for recurring pelvic disease at the beginning of the nineties, Maggie Tapert turned her life upside down and set off on a healing journey that zigzagged all over the planet. Illness provided her with an opportunity to learn from some of the world’s most gifted healers and teachers. At journey’s end, revived and recovered, she arrived at a profound understanding of the dynamics of illness and health. She also gained deep insight into the healing potential of a self-directed life, lived with joy and passion. Her personal quest for emotional, spiritual and physical healing became the foundation of the teaching that she has offered for more than a decade in workshops and private practice.Together with a small team, Tapert created a temporary, modern day version of early Matriarchal healing temples. For several years, in the role of Sacred Prostitute, she combined her deeply intuitive knowledge of human sexuality with her expertise in energy work and went on to become a strong and focused sexual healer. But her true calling emerged when she began to address female sexuality specifically and started drawing larger audiences to a work designed exclusively for women and their individual sexual needs. Today—now in the role of High Priestess—she regularly opens the doors of her Temple to women who feel ready to heal the artificial separation of the sexual and the sacred and those who seek an empowered life of creativity, passion and joy.
Tapert is currently completing a book entitled, Silk Purse: The Feminine Quest for Sexual Identity. At the end of 2005, Waking Aphrodite, a documentary film about her life and work will be released in the United States and Europe.
